Department of Horticulture in association with Punjab Agri Export Corporation (PAEC) is organising a two day state level Citrus Festival on 27-28 January at Sangam Palace, Abohar. The Horticulture Department are inviting entries from the farmers for the various Citrus fruit competitions wherein any government organization and citrus grower can participate in the competition. Interested participants can contact nearest Horticulture Office or Dr Jaspal Singh on 75080-18848. On this occasion Ajayvir Jakhar, Chairman, Punjab State Farmers & Field Worker Commission, Punjab, Viswajeet Khanna, (IAS), Additional Chief Secretary,(Dev) Punjab, Gagandeep Singh Brar (IAS) , Special Secretary Horticulture Punjab, Manjit Singh Brar (IAS) , MD, Punjab Agro Industries Corporation Limited (PAIC) and Manpreet Singh (IAS), Deputy Commissioner, Fazilka will be present to the encourage the participants.
More than 30 varieties of citrus fruits including Daisy tangerines, Early Gold Orange , W. Murcott Mandarin, Grapefruit, Lemon and Lime varieties which are widely grown in the region will be on display at the festival. This journey of fruits from the orchards to the festival will make for a refreshing experience for visitors along with their familiarization with traditional techniques and methods used by local farmers in citrus production.
Talking more about the festival Shailender Kaur, (IFS), Director of Horticulture , Punjab said, “ Punjab is one of the leading producers of Citrus fruits in the country, the festival is an attempt to bring the Citrus fruit family at the center stage and to provide exposure to the domestic Citrus Industry by exploring the evergreen love for citrus fruits harboured by all. The Festival will also provide agro industries and food processing industries the opportunity to display their products
Interested farmers can submit their entries on 27th January from 9 am to 1 pm.
