The closing ceremonyof the 39th Annual Athletics Meet of Post Graduate Government College, Sector 46, was held here today. Dr.AbhaSudarshan, Principal of the college welcomed the Chief Guest, Sh. C. B. Ojha, Chief Engineer, Chandigarh Administration, U.T Chandigarh.The event began with astriking, and a well synchronized March Past by the contingents of Army and Naval wings of NCC, NSS and students of M.Com, B.Com., BBA, B.C.A and B.A. The lighting of the torch and the Oath Taking Ceremony followed.The Sports Meet witnessed active participation from the students in various sports activitieslike the 10000 Meter, 5000 Meter,1500 Meter Race, 400 MeterRace, Relay Race,Long Jump, High Jump, Javelin Throw, Shot Put, Slow Cycle Race, Run and Walk and Tug of War. Dr. Rajinder Singh Kaura, Head, Department of Physical Education, read the annual report of the department.
Mr.Ojha, while highlighting the importance of sports,said, “Sports improve dedication, patience, mental and physical health thus contributing in character building. Sports contribute in the development of leadership skills necessary to succeed in today’s dynamic world”.Active participation in sports also brings about a sense of comradeship, he added.He congratulated the students for displaying great energy, zest and vigor in the various sports events.
The Chief Guest gave away medals and trophies to the prize winners. Moniof BA IIwas declared the Best Athlete among the girls andJaspreet Singhof BCOM III was declared the Best Athlete from among the boys.Dr. Rajesh Kumar (Dean)proposed the vote of thanks. Eminent among those present were, Dr. Simmi Arora (Vice Principal), Dr. RajinderKaura.
