The four-day long ‘Ek Haath Aasha Ka’, a free artificial hands camp, concluded at Chandigarh University (CU) here today. A total of 1532 beneficiaries got the artificial hands at the camp. Prof Dr RS BAWA, PRO Chancellor of CU was the chief guest at the concluding function.
The free LN4 Hand distribution and training camp “Ek Haath Aasha Ka” was organized by Rotary Club Chandigarh Central in association with Rotary Club of Poona Downtown.
Ashish Midha,President, Rotary Club Chandigarh Central said, “Providing the functional hand would definitely change the lives of the beneficiaries and their family members. We are planning another similar camp in February or April, 2022. We are thankful to the CU administration for their support.”
Dr R S Bawa, Pro Chancellor of CU, said, “This was the first such camp in the northern region. The beneficiaries of the LN4 hands will be able to perform day to day functions. The LN4 Prosthetic hands have already been fitted on about 60,000 people in 80 countries.”
The hands have been manufactured by Ellen Meadows Prosthetic Hand Foundation, USA. The differently abled persons from various states including Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar benefited at the camp.
The free limbs camp was meant for the children above 10 years of age and elders, who lost their hands in some accident or had to get it amputated otherwise. The US made hands, weighing 400 gram, are suitable for amputation below the elbow.
