DAV College Chandigarh has been established as SWAYAM – NPTEL Local Chapter. The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) has been initiated by seven Indian Institutes of Technology (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Guwahati and Roorkee) along with the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and aims at providing open online courses along with certificates from the IITs/IISc upon successful completion. NPTEL has the largest online repository in the world in the courses of engineering, basic sciences, humanities and social sciences subjects. NPTEL website has its own Youtube educational channel, more than 56000 hours of video content, 52000+ hours of transcribed content along with 51000+ hours of subtitled videos. The objective of enabling students to obtain certificates is to enhance their skills and making them employable in the industry. There are large number of 4-, 8-, or 12-week courses that are relevant to students in enhancing their skills along with basic core courses in sciences and humanities with exposure to relevant tools and technologies. The enrolment to and learning from these courses involves no cost, however, After successful completion of the course, students have a choice to appear for certification exam by paying nominal fees and obtain a certificate through the participating institutions and industry, when applicable.

Dr. Minakshi Bhardwaj, Associate Professor and Head of Department (CS&IT) has been appointed as Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for NPTEL- Swayam programme. She said, “Any student can enroll for these programmes and DAV College as a local chapter will help students with all the latest details regarding courses, assignments, certification etc. Moreover, the college will also assign mentors for various courses who will be in close association with the enrolled students in case they face any difficulties.” Principal, Dr. Pawan Kumar Sharma said, “Students as well as faculty members can be immensely benefitted from a wide range of NPTEL – SWAYAM courses available and DAV College as a local chapter shall provide a bridge to access this reservoir of skill based and technical knowledge, not only to its own students and faculty but also to anyone who wishes to enrol for these courses.”
