The students of the senior wing of Dikshant International School adapted Bhisham Sahni’s ‘Kabira Khada Bazaar mein’ for their 18thannual day celebration, which was staged at Dikshant Global School’s campus here. The musical-drama was directed by Gursharan Singh, Former Dean of Activities, The Doon School, Dehradoon.  Justice Sanjay Mishra, Lokayukta (Uttar Pradesh) graced the occasion as the chief guest.

The story of musical-drama recounted anecdotes from Kabir’s life and expressed revulsion against untouchability and religious exclusivism, which were issues raised by Kabir. It depicted that even in the fifteenth century, Kabir propogated true freedom in the deepest sense of the term.

Mitul Dikshit, Chairman, Dikshant School said, “We picked up the play because the story is inspiring. Kabir wanted people to be free from the chains of meaningless rituals and superstitions prevalent in society. He had the intentions of bringing pure freedom to the lives of the ignorant and oppressed. His teachings are extremely relevant to today’s generation and the young students of Dikshant tried to spread awareness about the teachings of Kabir through the musical drama.”

Dikshantians’ acting prowess and hard training under Gursharan Singh was evident when the young actors staged the play with captivating simplicity. The play was followed by dances by students of middle school who with their skillful presentation put up an exhilarating performance which immediately struck a chord with the audience.  They carried forward the theme of Kabir’s story of bringing a positive change in the world.

The programme embarked with a Durga stuti, followed by the auspicious lighting of the lamp and a floral tribute to the founder of the school Late Shri O. N. Dikshit. In the Prize Distribution Ceremony, the achievements of the school during the session were highlighted. It is noteworthy that the school has recently become the first international NASA stem lab outpost. Parents also got an opportunity to watch the documentary films made by students of the school. Students and faculty members were awarded for their extraordinary performance in academics, co-curricular activities and the ongoing reading program during the academic year.
