Fortis Hospital Mohali distributed nutrition kits to patients suffering from tuberculosis (TB) at the Civil Hospital, Phase 6, Mohali, here today.

In accordance with the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan initiative by the Central Health Ministry and further deliberations with the Union Health Minster, Fortis Hospital Mohali has committed to support the cause and will be adopting TB patients from Mohali, Nawanshahr, Roopnagar and Hoshiarpur. The event was facilitated by a Delhi-based NGO, MAMTA-Health Institute for Mother and Child.

Mohali Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain, Mr. Ashish Bhatia, Business Head-Punjab, Fortis Hospital Mohali; and Dr Vikramjit Singh Dhaliwal, Medical Director, Fortis Hospital Mohali, distributed the kits to the beneficiaries.

Lauding the move undertaken by Fortis Hospital Mohali, Mohali DC Aashika Jain, said, “I am grateful to Fortis Hospital Mohali for participating in the project and the Government of Punjab is committed to offer help to TB patients in every way possible. Concerted efforts have to be taken to eradicate the disease and reduce the social stigma around it. This can be attained through adoption of patients and support from the community.”

While speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bhatia said, “The move will benefit patients suffering from tuberculosis and will provide them the necessary nutrition to fight the disease. A diet rich in nutrients is essential for a healthy immune system and can pace up an individual’s recovery. Fortis Healthcare is committed to eradicating TB and thus partnering in the states of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand.”

Mohali Civil Surgeon Dr Mahesh Ahuja, said, “It is a great initiative undertaken by Fortis Hospital Mohali. As per the programme design, nutritional support will be provided to TB patients for a period of six months. A balanced diet goes a long way in combating the disease.”
Fortis Hospital Mohali has registered itself at NIKSHAY Mitra (Government portal) to support TB patients and has adopted patients from eight states.

Under the scheme, Fortis Hospital, Mohali and Agilus Diagnostic have adopted four districts of Punjab, including Mohali, Nawanshahr, Roopnagar and Hoshiarpur, where Fortis will distribute nutrition kits to patients suffering from TB.
