Hockey Chandigarh celebrated the Olympic Day here today at Sector 42 Hockey stadium. Harpal Singh Cheema, Cabinet Minister of Punjab was the Chief Guest for the said occasion.

The Chief Guest while speaking on the occasion said, “It was indeed praiseworthy that Olympic day was being observed. He announced 10 lakh announced for hockey Chandigarh.

He said, Punjab and Chandigarh players represent India in the national team and this region has given prominent Olympians to this country. Punjab plays a major role in sports especially hockey. Special budget is being prepared to promote sports and encourage youngsters to excel in sports especially those in villages so that they can compete at the state level and later national level. They would be provided the best infrastructure and facilities.

Karan Gilhotra, President, Hockey Chandigarh, who is also a known philanthropist and Founder, Karan Gilhotra Foundation, while speaking on the occasion said, “It was always the endeavour of Hockey Chandigarh to encourage the players and will continue to promote the sport in a big way. It was indeed a moment of pride for the country, to see our players excelling in the last Olympics.” Karan Gilhotra is also the Co-Chair, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Punjab and Founder, Plaksha University.

An exhibition hockey match was played between CISF and CFHA-42 on the occasion. Anil Vohra, General Secretary Hockey Chandigarh, also spoke on the occasion.

On this Occasion, Hockey Chandigarh gave away branded hockey sticks to the upcoming & needy players of City Beautiful for the promotion of Sports Hockey our National Game.

Hockey Chandigarh also felicitated the Olympians / International Players like Gagan Ajit Singh, Deepak Thakur, Dharamvir Singh, Rupinder Pal Singh, Joydeep Kaur and others on this auspicious occasion.   

Senior office bearers and members of Hockey Chandigarh like Pushvinderjit Singh, Sr. Vice President, Dr. Chander Shekhar, IPS Patron and others were present there.

Around 700 sports persons from different sports of Chandigarh along with their coaches were present to celebrate the Olympic Day. A cake cutting ceremony was also organized on the occasion.
