Innovation Mission Punjab, a unique private-public partnership that aims to build, empower and act as a catalyst for local startup communities in Punjab. IMPunjab organized an Entrepreneurship Day for students at Baba Farid Group of Colleges, Bhatinda with two objectives, educating and enabling students to foster an entrepreneurial mindset amongst themselves. Shri. Shaukat Ahmed Parray, Bathinda DC further encouraged students to explore Innovation across the state. The event was conducted in three parts i.e., an Entrepreneurial Awareness Session, Monthly Innovation Challenge, and ‘Idea pe Charcha’ with mock pitching, to help them pursue entrepreneurship as a viable career option.

Approximately, 400 students attended the event, where they learned the fundamentals of entrepreneurship that can help them to work on their concepts and create prototypes for their start-ups. The subsequent activities were intended to help students comprehend the value of entrepreneurship, how it can help shape their future and to inculcate critical thinking to identify gaps and generate ideas. The session helped them enhance their leadership qualities and team-building skills through numerous creative activities.

A rise in the number of candidates who participated in the start-up Monthly Innovation Challenge (MIC) reflected students’ enthusiasm for a better future. Tejinder Singh Sidhu, Strategy and Innovation, Crisil, Preet Pal Singh Bhullar, Head-Entrepreneurial Activities, MRSPTU; Puneet Randhawa, Industrialist, Maha Shakti Conductors Pvt Ltd, Dr. Zaved Ahmed Khan, Baba Farid Dean of the Faculty of Science were among the industry professionals that served on the jury for the competition.

Commenting on the events, Somveer Anand, CEO & Mission Director, IMPunjab said, “IMPunjab’s Entrepreneurship Day is a unique initiative that aims at fostering Punjab’s ecosystem in its entirety. There is a plethora of young talent in Punjab that does not fear taking risks. The purpose of IMPunjab is to offer them a forum where they can discuss their ideas and get thorough guidance from eminent industry experts. The idea is to address local concerns with a variety of tools that are now available. We are eager to see how the ideas of these students progress.”

The leading three innovative start-up ideas along with the finest two concepts that were spearheaded by women won a cash prize of INR 10,000. The MIC winners are Shruti, MD Sajid Founder of Refurneco is a startup idea in which a low cost environment friendly furniture will be manufactured, Muskan & Nandita  Formulation of eco friendly incense sticks, Uma and Sneha for waste management of paddy fields was adjudged best women entrepreneurs.

At the Entrepreneurship Day event, students discussed their entrepreneurial ideas with the team of IMPunjab, and the MIC winners were also felicitated.
