The 77th Independence Day was celebrated at the Post Graduate Government College, Sector – 46, Chandigarh, with great exuberance and patriotic fervor. The Principal, Dr. Abha Sudarshan hoisted the national flag. It was followed by the singing of the national anthem. Rich tributes were paid to the freedom fighters who valiantly fought for the independence of the country.In her address, Principal, Dr. Sudarshan said that it is a day of immense pride for all the citizens of India as we remember the sacrifices made by the resolute efforts and unparalleled fortitude of our freedom fighters. She added that India has come a long way as it is now the fifth largest economy in the world and as proud citizens of this country, it is our responsibility to sincerely perform our duty and progress together for the growth and development of our glorious nation.
Students also shared their views on the true significance of freedom and the role of youth in nation building. Patriotic songs sung by the students added to the spirit of the day.The NSS Units under the “MERI MAATI MERA DESH” campaign organised a Tree Plantation drive in the college campus. Principal of the college, Dr. Abha Sudarshan administered Panch Pran pledge to the faculty and the students to dedicate themselves to the service of the motherland. Dr. Baljit Singh, Vice Principal also congratulated the staff and students on this occasion.The celebration was also marked by the distribution of sweets.
