To recognize the efforts of the nursing community and the selfless service rendered to patients, a host of cultural activities were organised to observe International Nurses Day at Fortis Hospital Mohali from 8th May to 12th May. International Nurses Day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale on the 12th of May every year. The theme of this year’s is ‘Our Nurses. Our Future.’ The week-long celebrations kicked off with the theme-opening ceremony attended by the nursing staff and senior leadership of Fortis Mohali including Ashish Bhatia, Business Head, Punjab; and Abhijit Singh, Head-SBU, Fortis Mohali. The nursing team led by Madhavi Chikhale, Chief of Nursing, Fortis Mohali, and other nursing in-charges later visited Prabh Aasra, a home for mentally-challenged and destitute people. The team also distributed goodies, including stationery items, among the inmates. The following day, the nursing staff participated in indoor games and awareness sessions on the principles of humanity.

Further, the nursing staff along with the senior Fortis Mohali leadership took part in the second edition of the Fortis Walkathon on 10th May. The walkathon was flagged-off by Abhijit Singh, Head-SBU, Fortis Mohali.

Meanwhile, a wide-range of activities such as indoor sports and quiz contests were organized on Day 4 of the celebrations. The events culminated with a tika ceremony held by the senior nursing staff members wherein they welcomed the junior staff on the morning of 12th May. This was followed by cultural performances and a felicitation ceremony wherein awards were given to the nursing staff in recognition of their hard work.

As a token of appreciation for the outstanding work of the nursing staff who are clinically deployed for patient care across the network, the Fortis leadership has introduced the Fortis Florence Nightingale Awards. Cash prizes were given to the top three winners.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms Chikhale, said, “Our nursing staff has always been at the forefront of medical care. They work selflessly to deliver excellent patient care service at all times. They go to great lengths and ignore their own physical and emotional needs. International Nurses Day gives the nursing community a platform to exhibit their contribution to the healthcare sector.”
