Keeping up the tradition of excelling in co-curricular activities in addition to academics, another feather has been added in the cap of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh. Ms. Kajal, a student of B.A.-II in the college and player of Fencing has been selected to represent India in World University Games 2017 to be held in Chinese Taipei, Taiwan.
Kajal started playing fencing when she was in class 6th in 2009. Under the able guidance of her coach Mrs. Charanjeet Kaur, she played six Cadet Nationals and won 1 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze medals. She has competed in five Junior Nationals and won1 gold and 4 bronze. She has also participated in two Senior Nationals. Apart from glory at the national level, she has represented the country in Asian Cadet Fencing Championship held at Abu Dhabi, UAE in 2015; Asian Cadet Fencing Championship held in Bahrain in 2016 and Asian Cadet Fencing Championship held in Korat, Thailand in 2017.
Kajal participated in the Inter-University Fencing Championship held in GNDU, Amritsar and won 2 silver medals in foil team, and 1 bronze medal in sabre team. Her performance in this tournament led to her selection for World University Games. Thereafter she attended a rigorous World University India Training camp at Amritsar.
Prof. Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college congratulated Kajal on her feat and wished her luck for the upcoming Championship. She also applauded the commitment and dedication of faculty members of Physical Education Department of the college whose untiring efforts have produced sportspersons of international standard in the college. Prof. Kaushal reiterated that the objective of the college was overall development of the students so as to shape them as responsible citizens.
