The NSS Unit of Shishu Niketan Model Sr. Sec. School Sector 22/D, Chandigarh inaugurated its 7 days winter camp yesterday. Out of a number of activities lined for the week, the volunteers today took up Cleanliness project in collaboration with Municipal Corporation Chandigarh. This cleanliness drive was inaugurated by Mr. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today whereby the entire area from the school campus to the Gurudwara of Sector 22 covering the entire stretch of 50 meter was cleaned by the volunteers. Their enthusiasm with hoes, spades, sickles and shovels in their hands was worth watching. The entire area, which was earlier full of weeds, shrubs and mounds was cleaned and leveled by the students within two hours. The students planted a number of sapling and flowers along this stretch. Mr. Ravi Kant Sharma, appreciating the efforts of the students extended all possible help to the school in the joint venture. He instructed concerned municipal members to do the needful and provide help required in terms of plants dustbins ad well as maintenance of the area. Ms. Amita Khorana, the Principal of the school thanked the Mayor for taking some time out of his busy schedule to boost up the morale of the students. She remarked that such cleanliness projects create a positive and a healthy impact not only on its surrounding but also on its inhabitants.
