Four NSS volunteer students of LPU, Phagwara left Chandigarh this morning on Kochhivelli bound Kerala Sampark Kranti Train No. 12218 with tons of relief materials which they collected from university and locals in recent times. Their mission was led by Madhu Bala, Regional Director, NSS under the aegis of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sport, Govt of India. Four students namely Yahya P (M.Sc. Economics), Suhail Salam (MA, Education), Aakash A Nair (B.Tech, Computers Sc), Vaseem Zaman KP (B.Tech Petrochemicals) hailing from Kannur and Palakkad district arrived late night and left Chandigarh this morning with basic essentials including blankets, bed sheets, detergents, wash/bath soaps, toilet cleaners, slippers, antiseptics, dettols, food packs and some medicines for their native grieving people. Present on the occasion, Madhu Bala told NSS students initiated a campaign for Kerala Relief and collected nearly two lakhs rupees and purchased these essentials whereas collection campaign is continued in local NSS units. Suhail Salam told the group is in touch with DM, Alleppey where they would receive these relief materials and with the help of locals they all will be distributing refugee camps. Kuttanad and Changanoor area of Allppey district is badly affected in recent floods. Madhu Bala thanked Indian Railway and Railway Territorial Army for making a provision for extra luggage catering relief material. She urged all NSS units to come forward this cause.

Chandigarh based NSS Office under the aegis of Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt of India carries the NSS activities in 38 universities and hundreds of schools across the region of Punjab, HP and Chandigahr.
