The 8th Panjab University Rose Festival is going to be held from 10th to 12th February, 2017. The three day mega event will be inaugurated by Prof. Arun Kumar Grover, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University on 10.02.2017 at 2:00 pm at Prof. R.C. Paul Rose Garden. The winners of the Flower Competition and Photography Competition will be displayed on the same day. On this occasion, the cultural programmes will be presented by Ankur School and Guru Gobind Singh Vidya Mandir Sr. Sec. School. The Vice Chancellor will honour the members of the Organising Committee by presenting them Awards of Honour.
Prof. R.C. Paul Rose Garden, the venue of the festival is spread over an area of 3.5 acres. It has 188 variety of Roses grown in 250 flower beds which are in full blossom these days.
The preparations of the festival are in final stage and the staff of Horticulture Division is putting in its best efforts to make this event a success. Prof. R. C. Paul Rose Garden of Panjab University has been given a new look for the festival.
To make the festival more attractive to the general public, many attractions have also been added this year. Kite Flying by Environment Society of India will be held on 12th February, 2017. Tableaus are being designed by the students depicting various themes. The cycle tableau has been designed to encourage the visitors for cycling.
A Selfie and Photography station for general public has been created in the festival where visitors can get there photographs clicked with the green surroundings.
A three day Exhibition-cum-Workshop on the theme ‘Natural Biodiversity’ to sensitize the audience about the science, climate, environment, biodiversity, nature, flora, fauna etc. will also be there in the festival.
An art workshop titled “Golshan’ curated by Prof. Tirthankar Bhattacharya will be special attraction during the festival. Eminent artists from the region like Madan Lal, Sadhna Sangar, Anjali Aggarwal, Sanjay Kumar and Shubash Shorey will be part of this exhibition.
An Aero Modeling Workshop will also be there in the festival to teach students about aircraft flying.
The 8th Panjab University Rose Festival will have 15 competitions of different age group such as Singing, Rangoli, Collage Making, Slogan Writing, Rose Quiz, Face Painting, Poetic Recitation, Dancing, Mehandi, Rose Prince & Princess, Painting and Fancy Dress. People are showing great interest in these competitions for which forms are being accepted in offline as well as online mode. Already about 1000 forms have been sold offline and about 200 forms have been sold online.
All the three days of the festival will have special attractions in the evening. On the first day, Fashion Competition under the able guidance of University Institute of Fashion Technology will take place in the evening. On the second day a Laughter Show featuring Comedian Prince Garg and Jagdeep Bheema and a Magic Show by Ashok Samrat, Wonder Man of India will be held in the evening. Third day will have performance by Bollywood Singer Alamgir Khan of Bodyguard fame. Mrs. Asha Jaswal, Mayor will be the chief guest on the final day of the festival.
Good number of stalls have been put up at the festival displaying and selling varied products like food items, electronic products, etc. Organizations like State Bank of India, Markfed etc. have also put up there stalls. Several stalls sensitizing people about Blood Donation & Environment Conservation are also in the festival.
