The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has called off Kisan Republic Day parade with immediate effect and appealed to all participants to immediately return to their respective protest sites. SKM has announced that the movement will continue peacefully and further steps will be discussed and decided soon.
Farmers protesting against 3 Farm Bills, today marched tractor rally towards Red Fort (Lal Kila) which turned violent. Farmers clashed with Delhi police in return of which police fired tear gas. Groups of farmers deviated from their designated route and broke into the Red Fort to hoist their flag atop the monument.
Later, Delhi police removed the protesters from Red Fort. Police used tear gas at Delhi’s Mukarba Chowk, Nangloi to bring the groups under control. Now internet services are suspended in Delhi-NCR Borders till tonight 12 am. Several Police personnel and farmers are injured in the violence.
Alok Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police, Delhi just released a statement, “Legal action will definitely be taken against those who assaulted the police personnel during the farmers’ tractor rally today.”
Haryana Police has issued ‘high alert’ and directed all district police chiefs to stay vigilant. Internet services has been suspended in 3 districts of Haryana for 24 hours. There will be no Internet in Sonipat, Jhajjar and Palwal for next 24 hours till 5 pm tomorrow.
Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh condemned Delhi Violence and also urged Farmers to return. He wrote on twitter, “Shocking scenes in Delhi. The violence by some elements is unacceptable. It’ll negate goodwill generated by peacefully protesting farmers. Kisan leaders have disassociated themselves & suspended #TractorRally. I urge all genuine farmers to vacate Delhi & return to borders.”
