Horticulture Division of Panjab University today took up the task to clean its South Campus Located at Sector 25, Chandigarh under the ongoing Swachhta Abhiyaan. Team of about sixty officials was pressed into action under able leadership of Er. Anil Thakur.

All the roads with sides were cleaned in drive that continued for four hours. Er. Thakur told the correspondent that Horticulture Division earlier had planted about 1600 trees in campus and today they took maintenance of those as well. This exercise was so vigorous that weeds full of numerous trolleys were removed. Garbage included huge quantity of plastic that worried Er. Aman Singla who led the execution of waste collection.

Dr. MC Sidhu from Botany who kept on documenting the weeds and other botanical aspects during the drive was appreciative of flora found in PU and emphasized that there is plenty of room for combined research projects.

The drive was a collaborative effort with Social Substance, a group from PU active in CSR activities. Dr. Arun Bansal from the group documented the whole process and briefed media about the objectives and motives behind the drive. He raised an issue of signs of Gods disposed off as garbage under the trees and appealed all to have some common sense. This is not good for the trees  at all

Everybody in attendance praised the real heroes, Gardeners  and Helpers of PU, for this extensive Drive under Swachhta Abhiyaan.
