The celebrations of Colorful ‘jovial’ festival ‘Teej started today at Aryans Group of Colleges at its campus at Chandigarh – Patiala, Near Chandigarh with Traditional fervour. The young girl students & staff danced to the tunes of traditional Punjabi music.
The girls recited ‘Bolian’ (verses from folk music) and performed ‘Giddha’ to welcome the ‘Savan’, the rain month, with which the festival is associated. The girls, wearing traditional, colourful dresses broke into dances on the beats of the dhol. However, there was also modern music and thus the recent Punjabi pop songs also added to the celebrations.
Director, Aryans Group, Raman Rani Gupta appreciated the efforts of the girls and said the festival of Teej was a symbol of our cultural heritage. She said the celebration of all such festivals and functions not only provide joy, but were also a way of reviving and keeping alive the traditions and customs which were vanishing these days.
Registrar, Aryans Group, Ms. Sukhaman Batch said that the festival reminds one of the happy times in life. She said that the festival was traditionally celebrated in Punjab during the month of rain and rued that traditional festivals like these were being forgotten by the younger generation, who spend most of their times on internet and watching movies.
