The Women cell, Internal Complaint committee and Psychology Department of DAV College, sector 10, Chandigarh organized a one day workshop on ‘Prevention of Sexual harassment at workplace’ on the 28th August , 2018 in collaboration with CII Indian Women Network (IWN) Chandigarh Tricity Chapter.

Preventing harassment in the workplace is one of the most pressing concerns for all organizations. Several laws have been framed culminating in the sexual harassment of women at workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal Act 2013), however the effective use of this legislation is possible through awareness among the masses.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Reetinder Kohli, Chairwoman, IWN, Chandigarh Tricity Chapter and Principal Dr. BC Josan.

Dr. Upneet Lalli, Deputy Director ICA , an eminent speaker and sought after trainer, with numerous pulications, lectures and workshops to her credit was the resource person of the workshop.

Dr. Lalli distinguished sexual harassment from harmless flirtation and emphasized that it erodes equality, dignity, well being and mental health of women. She traced the history of development of legal redressal of sexual harassment, beginning with the provisions in the history of India i.e Articles 14, 15, 19 and 21 through the landmark judgement in the Vishakha case of 1977 and the recent Act of 2013. She explained the various concepts related to the provisions in the Act, including the Internal Complaint committees, Local Complaint committees, procedure for filing of complaints and submission of the enquiry committee. She took up the relevant questions from the audience.

Dr Shruti Shourie, Convener of the women cell said that DAV College was privileged to hold the workshop on campus and encouraged the students to ask questions and interact with the speaker.

The participants more than 200 in number including Faculty and students from neighboring colleges attended the workshop.

At the end of the workshop, Dr. Komila Parthi gave the vote of thanks. She thanked the organizers, the speaker and the participants for making the workshop a grand success.
