Youth Service club of DAV College, Chandigarh, under the guidance of Prof. Rosy Ahluwalia and Dr. Karan Vinayak, organized a one day interactive workshop on gender sensitization and equal rights, on October 12, 2019. The workshop titled “Know Your Rights” was an initiative of Vivel, as part of its brand philosophy of “Ab Samjhauta Nahin” (No more compromises), with the objective to change the collective consciousness of the youth on gender-sensitive issues. Dr. Pawan Kumar, Principal of DAV College mentioned about the aims and objectives of the Youth Service club and initiatives undertaken by the unit in the ongoing session. He emphasized on the eminent changes which have influenced our society since ancient times. He also welcomed Ms. Niharika Singh, the speaker for the event, who is currently working in collaboration with ITC Vivel for many social causes. She has worked in prominent projects related to farmer suicides and critical socio-cultural issues. Many students from the college participated in the event. The program highlighted lack of awareness of several basic and fundamental rights. Workshop included deliberations on Equality at work and at home with details of the legal rights and framework for sexual harassment, POCSO, Domestic Violence, Divorce, Alimony and Inheritance. It intensely stressed on the need to know one’s rights and executing them with regard to gender equality. Questions, queries and open discussion by the enthusiastic students marked the last session of the workshop.
