The 49th annual convocation of Government Home Science College, Sector-10 was held on April 19, 2017. As many as 200 students were awarded degrees. Degrees were conferred upon students from various streams including B.Sc. Home Science, B.Sc. Fashion Designing and Masters in Foods and Nutrition, Clothing and Textiles and Human Development and Family Relations. In addition, prizes were awarded for a number of co- curricular activities during the academic session. Students excelling in the field of sports and other literary activities were felicitated. Barinder Shergill from B.Sc H.Sc 6thsemester IDRM was awarded the best all rounder student and Alisha from B.Sc Dietetics 3rd year won Dr. Devi’s award for being the most compassionate and helping student of the college.
Mr. Jatinder Yadav, Director, Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration was the chief guest. The convocation began with an academic procession led by the Principal Dr. Sudha Katyal and Sh Jatinder Yadav. The Principal Dr. Sudha Katyal read out the annual college report highlighting the major events of the academic session 2016-17. She addressed the students and urged them to be brand ambassadors of Home Science College and encouraged them to achieve their goals with honesty and go on to make the college proud.
The chief guest congratulated the prize winners and motivated them to act as functional literates. He also encouraged the students to make best use of this time, make best friends, do something good in life and be a good human being. He also emphasized on setting clear targets and generating entrepreneurial skills which will further help the society in moving further.
On this event under the dynamic leadership of Principal Dr. Sudha Katyal, 2nd edition of newsletter was also released highlighting various activities and events of staff and students during the session 2016-17.
