Third Chandigarh Eye Film Festival was organized at Hotel Shivalik View, Sector 17 here under the aegis of Chandigarh Ophthalmological Society by City Eye Bank in Collaboration with Dr Ashok Sharma’s Cornea Centre, Chandigarh. The CME was attended by approximately 100 eye specialists of the region.
The conference was inaugurated by Padma Shri Prof Amod Gupta, Former Dean and Head of Advanced Eye Centre, PGIMER, Chandigarh.
Prof Amod Gupta spoke on “On crossroads on Ethics in Science.” He cautioned the eye specialists to venture into new innovations or new surgical procedures with caution. He advised that all of us should follow the principle of no harm to the patient, while selecting a therapeutic option.
Dr Ashok Sharma, Director Cornea Centre Chandigarh who was the Chief Organizing Secretary presented his work on corneal grafting in infants, and children. He has performed more than 250 successful corneal transplants in children, the highest in this region.
Prof Jagat Ram, Dr M R Dogra, Prof S S Pandav, Prof Suresh Gupta, Dr P S Dhami, Dr Ranjeet S Dhaliwal, Dr Sandeep Mahajan, Prof Ram Lal, Prof Gaurav Sharma, Prof Rajeev Tuli and Prof Anil Verma imparted knowledge to the participants through their presentations and discussions. The competitive sessions on challenging cases by the young ophthalmologists and video sessions were the other highlights of the conference.
Dr Rajan Sharma presented his research on limbal stem cell cultures from the sclerocorneal rings and highlighted int’s clinical implications. Dr Ashok Sharma’s cornea Centre is known for corneal transplants, limbal stem cell transplants and treatment of complex corneal diseases. The Conference was moderated by Dr K S Kumar a renowned retinal surgeon from Bangalore, Karnataka.
This was the unique third annual event aimed at dissemination of knowledge through video based presentations and discussions. The scientific program was designed to give ample time to the delegates to ask their queries and interactive discussion. The deliberations will improve the eye care in the region once the eye specialists apply this knowledge in treatment of their patients.
