Revving up the excitement for motorsport enthusiasts in the region, the much awaited and iconic 37th Edition of St. John’s Old Boys Association(SJOBA) Annual Motor Car Rally is all set to kick off on March 28 at 3:30pm from St Johns School ,Sec 26, Chandigarh. The rally will conclude on March 31, 2024.
The core organising team shared details of the rally at a press meet here. Media were also treated to a photo opportunity with the rally drivers posing alongside their machines.
Almasto Kapoor, President, SJOBA, while speaking with media persons, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “The SJOBA Annual Motor Car Rally has become a hallmark event in the motorsport calendar of the country. We are thrilled to bring the 37th Edition to life. It is a testament to the passion and dedication of all involved, from our participants to our organising team.”
With a line-up featuring 20 Extreme four wheelers and 50 Extreme two wheelers, the rally is expected to draw in approximately 120 participants. There will be 12 competition stages spread across three days, this edition promises intense competition and unforgettable moments.
Abhishek Misra, Secretary of SJOBA, while reflecting on the occasion, added: “This rally is not just about competition; it’s about camaraderie and the spirit of adventure. We have carefully curated the route to challenge the skills of the drivers and riders while showcasing the scenic beauty of Punjab.”
The rally will start from Chandigarh and pass through Ropar, Ludhiana, Nawanshahr, and Hoshiarpur before returning back.
The Clerk of the Course, SPS Ghai said, “The meticulously crafted tracks spanning these districts of Punjab will offer a challenging mix of terrains including non-concrete roads, river beds, tarmac roads, and hilly landscapes, ensuring a thrilling experience for both participants and also spectators alike.”
Shivam Garg, Deputy Clerk of the Course informed, “The scrutiny of participants will be done on March 28 from 8 am onwards, while the ceremonial flag off will be done at 3:30pm from St John’s High School. The rally will conclude on 31st March by 5:00pm at St John’s High School, Chandigarh and will be followed by the prize distribution at Chandigarh Club from 7:30pm onwards.
Naginder Singh, Deputy Clerk of the Course, said: “We are delighted to welcome participants from all corners of India, representing the true essence of our country’s unity in diversity.”
Danish Singh Mangat, Competitor Relationship Officer, said, “All rules, regulations and safety protocols of Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India( FMSCI) , which is the nodal organisation of motor sport events are incorporated by the SJOBA Rally. Sjoba Rally is one of India’s oldest motorsport events.
