Verka celebrates World Milk Day

Verka in association with the India Dairy Association (IDA)  organized a seminar at National Institute of Technical Teachers  Training and Research  Chandigarh to mark the “World Milk Day “ with great fervor and enthusiasm.  The theme of the seminar was “Sustainable Growth in Indian Dairy”.

June 1 is commemorated as World Milk Day which celebrates the important contributions of the dairy sector to sustainability, economic development, livelihoods and nutrition. Milk is an important part of a healthy balanced diet and World Milk Day provides the perfect opportunity to spread the word. World Milk Day puts a lot of attention on milk and does a great job in publicizing activities connected with the milk industry.

 This year Verka organized a seminar on “Sustainable Growth in Indian Dairy” in association with India Dairy Association. Sustainable dairy farming in India prophesies the proper and efficient usage of the resources, without being over-exploitative. The seminar emphasised on the need of high potential clean energy interventions for increased efficiency and economic opportunity along the milk value chain. Also discussed were the sources of financing for energy efficiency measures as well as the necessary policy interventions to implement these energy efficiency measures in the dairy sector.

Speaking on the occasion Capt. Karnail Singh , Additional Managing Director, Milkfed said,” Dairying is acknowledged as the major instrument in bringing about socio-economic transformation of rural poor in our country.Concerted efforts should henceforth be directed towards the dairy farmers contributing major proportion of our country’s milk production to provide necessary input and make them adopt newer technologies in breeding, housing, feeding, rearing and health care to ensure substantial growth in milk output.  “

The seminar was attended by officials of ,Punjab Dairy Development Board, MILKFED, Department of Animal Husbandry ,and people  who showed keen interest in learning more about sustainability in dairy farming.
