DIVYA AZAD

The very popular, annual Baisakhimela is back at Taj Chandigarh poolside.  Marking the celebration of harvest season in Punjab, the poolside at this luxury hotel in City Beautiful is set up for dinner from the 7th to 16th of April 2017, from 7:30 pm-11:30 pm.

In true traditional style, this food festival goes lavish in more ways than one. Some of the best is pulled in from the Dera menu with traditional favourites peculiar to Baisakhi also featuring high. RarraGosht, Batairbhunna, Kathalkeesabzee, Paneer harimirch, Gannayki Kheer, piping hot jalebis and more can be relished by the guests. Extras in the form of chaat and paan work wonderfully to seal the delectable celebration in true grandness, which is synonymous with Punjab. Chef Ranvijay, who has recently taken over as Executive Chef, has got in some surprise elements too that will change on a daily basis in order to retain the novelty factor of the menu each evening.

Apart from the food, there are also other activities which add to the aura of the evening.  This time round the hotel has gone all out and brought in several stalls that will showcase and sell various items like Phulkari Duppattas, Punjabi Juttis, bangles, Mehendi  and more. Folklore music completes the evening with Gidda, Dhol and Bhangra tasters from time to time.  Mr Surinder Singh, the General Manager of Taj Chandigarh tells us that the intent was to create a ‘Typical Rural Mela like ambience to set the mood just right for the guests’

Priced at 1550/- per head, plus taxes, the event promises to bring in the Punjabi New Year with the perfect balance between luxury dinning and ethnic cuisine, not to mention a local Baisakhi Mela shopping experience.
