The Shiromani Akali Dal (Democratic) has made appointments of office bearers in several prominent districts of Punjab to give further impetus to the ongoing struggle of the farmers against the anti-farmer black laws. Simultaneously, it was also decided to indefinitely postpone a high level seminar to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Shiromani Akali Dal, scheduled to take place in Amritsar on December 13, in view of the farmers’ stir.

The decision was taken during a high power meeting held at the party head office on Monday under the chairmanship of Rajya Sabha MP and party president S. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa. “Keeping in view the urgency and to strengthen the farmers’ movement, the party has decided to postpone the Amritsar seminar,” said S. Dhindsa. During the meeting, the party extended full support to farmers’ movement and wished it to be a success. The party leaders wished the fulfillment of farmers’ struggle with a logical end in achieving all their demands. It was further decided in the meeting, that the party cadre would fully support the Bharat Bandh call given by farmers’ organisations on Tuesday.

Party chief S. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said that to strengthen the farmers’ struggle, some district and state level responsibilities were given to senior leaders of the party. It was decided in the meeting that more efforts should be made to support the struggling farmers’ organisations for repeal of anti-farmer black laws. The party appointed S. Parminder Singh Dhindsa, former Punjab Finance Minister as the Patron of Youth Akali Dal (Democratic), while S. Bir Devinder Singh, former deputy speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha, was appointed as the chairman of the Media Committee.

Similarly S. Randhir Singh Rakhra from Patiala (Rural), S. Sarabjit Singh Doomwali from Bathinda (Rural), S. Manjit Singh Bappiana from Mansa (Rural), S. Lakhvir Singh Thabla from Fatehgarh Sahib (Rural), S. Gurcharan Singh Channi from Jalandhar (Urban) and S. Jagraj Daudhar from Moga (Rural), were appointed as district presidents. The party also appointed S. Desraj Singh Dhugga as the president of Scheduled Castes (SC) wing. Bibi Paramjit Kaur Gulshan was appointed as patron while Bibi Harjit Kaur Talwandi was given the responsibility as president of the Women Wing. S. Mithu Singh Kahanke was given responsibility to coordinate with the Employees Wing.

The meeting was presided over by senior party leaders including Sewa Singh Sekhwan, Jagdish Singh Garcha, Parminder Singh Dhindsa, Justice Nirmal Singh (retd), Bir Devinder Singh, Nidhark Singh Brar, Sukhwinder Singh Aulakh, Ranjit Singh Talwandi, Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu, Mann Singh Garcha, Rajinder Singh Kanjhla, Gurbachan Singh Bachi, Sukhwant Singh Sarao, Manjit Singh Dasuya, Satwinder Singh Dhatt, AS Johal, Tejinderpal Singh Sandhu, Rajwinder Singh Hisowal, Gurpartap Singh Riar, Maninderpal Singh Brar (office secretary), Jaswinder Singh (OSD), Davinder Singh Sodhi (political advisor), among others.
