Zee Punjabi, the first Punjabi GEC Channel has completed 2 years in the industry entertaining its audience with soaps and serials, music n movies, and reality shows. On completion of 2 years and celebrating the success of the channel, Zee Punjabi’s Chief Channel Officer – Mr Rahul Rao shared his thoughts and views.
In a recent conversation with him, when asked about the highlights of Zee Punjabi’s in the last 2 years Mr Rao said, “Zee Punjabi has had many highlights in the last 2 years from being the best in the class launch of any GEC to its shows being the highest-rated Punjabi shows, to achieving slot leadership to becoming the no.1 reach platform in the state to being the no.1 Punjabi channel in urban Punjab (devotional content excluded) to the biggest celebrities of Punjab working with us – Gurdas Maan, Jazzy B, Jaidev KR, Sonu Kakkar, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Harbhajan Singh, Neeru Bajwa, Sonam Bajwa, Jassi Gill, Master Saleem, Mannat Noor, Jaswinder Bhalla to some great talent from Mumbai associating with our shows – Upasana Singh, Parmeet Sethi, Angad Hasija, Karan Mehra. The biggest highlight for us though has been the love and affection that the viewers have showered upon us and made us the most loved channel in the state.”
The Punjabi entertainment industry is now evolving and audiences like different diversified content, Hence when asked what according to him was the content trend in the market, “Punjab has a vibrant and rich culture and history which is reflected in the rich content offered by the state. All genres have been consumed in the state for a long while but the consumer favorite on TV seems to be drama. Drama-based shows have continued to rule the roost and the viewers’ hearts. We have also observed consumers give their time and love to comedy as a genre that serves as an escape and is a preferred genre of content here. Music has continued to be a strong viewership driver with viewers across the state and in fact, the world responding well to Punjabi songs” said Mr Rahul Rao.
Zee has been acing in all languages and now they have firmed their feet in the Punjabi entertainment industry as well. So it will be really interesting to see what this new year will bring for Zee in terms of entertainment and what the audience can expect from the makers. To which Mr Rao answered, “We will launch several new shows during the course of this year to bring best in class entertainment to viewers in addition to big-ticket non-fiction shows and big blockbuster films. Situation permitting we would also like to engage more directly and intimately with our viewers and reach each and every household in Punjab.”
