Regenerative Gynaecology is based on the repair or regeneration of tissues to restore the sexual health of women. Studies (International journal on informatics for development, dec, 2022) have shown that around 50% of the women suffer from vaginal discharge at least once in their lifetime, besides cases of urinary tract infection (UTI), stress incontinence, leakage of urine etc. largely go unreported. To address the issue, Fortis Hospital Mohali has started a Specialised Regenerative and Aesthetic Gynaecology Clinic to provide cutting-edge procedures for vaginal health rejuvenation aimed at enhancing vagina and pelvic organs. This will also strengthen and aid the natural healing processes of the body.
The Specialised Regenerative and Aesthetic Gynaecology Clinic is being headed by Dr Priyanka H Sharma, Consultant, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Fortis Hospital Mohali, who has been at the forefront of introducing innovative techniques and technologies in the field of gynecology.
Discussing the most advanced treatment procedures under Aesthetic Gynaecology available at Fortis Hospital Mohali, Dr Sharma, said, “As per the World Health Organisation (WHO), about 33% women suffer from ill reproductive health. Aesthetic gynecology includes procedures that will enable women to treat functionality issues and modify the physical structure of the vagina. This comprises surgical and non-surgical procedures to enhance the aesthetic appearance and functionality of the vulva and vaginal region. Most commonly women are affected by birthing injuries, uterine prolapse, incontinence issues, vaginal atrophy, genitourinary syndrome of menopause, perimenopausal and menopausal changes, lichen sclerosis, sexual dysfunction, and vulvovaginal laxity.”
Stating that women shied away from discussing issues regarding their vaginal health, Dr Sharma, added, “Women are hesitant due to social taboos surrounding such topics. Symptoms such as vaginal laxity, urine leakage (SUI), reduced sensitivity and lack of orgasm, dryness and pain during sex, anal area laxity with loss of tissue volume and aesthetic appearance of the feminine area can be treated through the modern procedures.”
On Regenerative Gynaecology, Dr Sharma, added, “This aims to induce tissue regeneration (vaginal rejuvenation) by using non-invasive/non-surgical procedures like PRP injections, laser or radiofrequency, hyaluronic acid fillers, botulinum injections, collagen fillers to treat gynaecological dysfunctions and disorders.”
Dr Sharma further informed that the procedures are quick, painless with zero down time, without any heavy medications and with relatively no contraindications.
