The highly anticipated Indo-Aussie Friendship Cup 2024, boasting a prize pool of Rs 3 lakh, is set to commence from July 2 to July 7 at the Tau Devi Lal Cricket Stadium, Panchkula. This exciting weeklong tournament will feature Under-23 teams from India and Australia competing in the T20 format, offering local cricketers a unique opportunity to showcase their skills on an international stage.
During a press conference held at the Chandigarh Press Club on Saturday, Munish Soni, an Indian-origin Australian citizen and the organizer of the tournament, shared his vision for the event. Soni, who owns Premier Aussie Team in the American Premier League and hails from Chandigarh, emphasized that the primary goal of this tournament is to provide international exposure to local cricketers without them having to leave their home ground.
“The Indo-Aussie Friendship Cup is designed to elevate the standard of cricket in the region by giving young, talented players the chance to compete against their international peers,” said Soni. “We are approaching various state cricket boards, including the UTCA, PCA, and HCA, to ensure wide participation and enhance the competitive spirit of the tournament.”
Soni also highlighted that apart from the main prizes, individual players will be awarded for their exceptional performances in various categories, which includes Best Bowler, Best Batter, and Best Wicketkeeper, among others.
The Indo-Aussie Friendship Cup 2024 not only aims to boost the local cricketing landscape but also fosters cultural exchange and strengthens the bonds between India and Australia through the shared love of cricket.
