Unnat Bharat Abhiyan camp inaugurated at PGGCG-11

A Seven Day/Night Camp of NSS units of Post Graduate Govt. College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh was inaugurated today. Dr. Navdeep Sharma, Programme Coordinator NSS, Panjab University was the Chief Guest for the inauguration of the camp which has the theme of “Unnat Bharat Abhiyan”. Dr. Rama Arora, Dean of the college and Mr. Kanwar Iqbal Singh, Vice-Principal were also present on the occasion. 200 volunteers from four units of NSS are participating in the camp. In the inaugural session on “Swachhata hi sewa hai”, the lectures were delivered by Ms. Anuja Gupta and Ms. Neelam Gupta in collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL). Ms. Mehak Uppal, Head CSR, HPCL was present on the occasion.

The seven-day camp aims at the holistic development of the volunteers coupled with community-centric activities. The volunteers will undertake regular yoga and also undergo training in self-defence from experts deputed by Chandigarh Administration. Speakers form diverse specialisations will enrich the students about relevant concerns like swachhata, composting, common diseases, both communicable and non-communicable, hygiene and care, HIV-AIDS. Personnel from Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh shall also interact with the students highlighting the functions of MC and the role that can be played by the volunteers towards various causes.  

Activities will be undertaken in the adopted village of Khudda Jassu wherein the residents of the village will be sensitised towards significance of swachhata, and hygienic problems emanating from open defecation. Issues like illiteracy, drug addiction and environment conservation are proposed to be addressed during the off-campus community work.

Addressing the volunteers and programme officers of NSS units of the college, Dr. Navdeep Sharma motivated them to be the agents of change, be innovative to bring about social transformation and focus on national development. She congratulated the college authorities on being ranked first among the colleges of Chandigarh and sixth among the government institutions of the country in the National Swachhata Ranking, 2017 by MHRD, Govt. of India.
