Punjab’s team took away the winning trophy in the Inter-state Wheelchair Cricket Tournament held at cricket stadium of Panjab University today.  This sports event organized for persons with physical disabilities (PwDs) was facilitated by Association of Professional Social Workers and Development Practitioners (APSWDP) in principal partnership with Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD).

Former Indian Cricketer, Dinesh Mongia reached today to motivate the participants. The final match was played between the team of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. The team of UP scored 122 runs in 12 overs. Anmol scored 51 runs while Irfan Haider contributed 24 runs. However the team of Punjab won this match in an exciting way when the Captain Veer Singh hit a six in the last ball. Veer Singh remained not out by contributing 79 runs. He scored 13 fours and 4 sixes.

Veer Singh Sandhu was declared the best batsman and man of the match.  Anmol from the team of UP was adjudged man of this series. Jagroop of Haryana Team was declared best bowler while Ashish from Haryana was declared best fielder.

Dinesh Mongia distributed the prizes and said that this was an inspiration for all and found the match very exciting.  The event saw the participation from 55 players from Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. The organizers mentioned that this event was a step towards promoting peace and development through sports and proving that physical disability is not actually a disability but a challenge to overcome.

The three day will culminate with a workshop on leadership and capacity building on peace and development through sports on 23 October 2017 at RGNIYD, Chandigarh campus.
