ABS India (ABS), a division of Genus plc, today launched in Chandigarh ABS Sexcel™ Sexed Dairy Genetics, using 21st century technology that is designed to deliver more high-value pregnancies to dairy herds countrywide. Priced differently for different genetics, ABSSexcelTM will be available to Indian Dairy Farmers at approximately 30- 40% less than the import price as on today.
Its new age cutting edge technology has been deployed at Brahma Genetics facility at Sangli, Maharashtra under Chitale Genus ABS India, a production joint venture between Genus ABS and B.G. Chitale Dairy Pvt. Ltd under PM’s vision of ‘Make in India’ initiative and has been delivered in record time.
ABS Sexcel™ Sexed Dairy Genetics will benefit farmers and consumers alike, and is poised to be the game-changer in Indian Dairy Farming. It has the potential to assist increased availability of milk for the nation. More importantly, sexed semen of Indian breeds like Sahiwal, Gir, Red Sindhi andMurrah buffaloes will be available for the first time and within reach of every farmer especially small and marginal farmers with Desi cows who had no sexed genetics option till now.
ABS SexcelTM harnesses ABS’s best genetics and is produced through a novel, proprietary technology for sexing bovine semen. This innovative technology does not subject the cells to the high pressures, electric currents and shear forces used to produce the sexed semen available till date. The result is a superior sexed genetics product that helps customers maximize their profitability in line with their individual economic and herd goals.
“This is an exciting and historic moment forABS India and its customers,” said Arvind Gautam, Managing Director – ABS India on the occasion of the launch at Chandigarh Press Club. “ABS SexcelTM gives farmers a new option for achieving their desired genetic blueprint and will help them profit through genetic progress. For the first time, Sexed semen of Indigenous cattle breeds like Sahiwal, Red Sindhi, Gir and Murrah buffaloes is available in India.”
Dr. Rahul Gupta, Head, Production-Genus ABS India, added, “With the availability of ABSSexcelTM Sexed genetics, Indian dairy farmers may now breed their cows with the sexed genetics specifically designed to produce more female cows using this new IntelliGen™technology. Genus IntelliGen™ technology produces female sexed semen through a new, cutting edge, laser-kill technology.”
Mr. Vishvas Chitale, Director, Chitale Genus ABS India Pvt. Ltd,, said, “While frozen sexed semen has been traditionally available only through import, that too, under restrictive trade terms, it involves approvals from multiple state and central agencies, and thus, remains virtually unobtainable, save, for all those with leisure of time and money. Indian farmers have been waiting for locally sourced sexed semen for long. We are glad to be able to extend SexcelTM benefits to thousands of farmers associated with Chitale dairy and get more milk for our customers. ”
“Our research has shown that our customers are seeking a stronger line-up of sexed genetics and SexcelTM brings that to the marketplace,” said Arvind Gautam. “Our ground-breaking technology helps farmers fast forward their genetic progress. It enables their elite heifers to produce the replacement animals they want, while also providing farmers a choice of sexed genetics tailored to their specific needs.”
Production of sexed semen in India can be termed as a historic upgradation for Indian Dairy Farmers. Indian farmers may now breed their cows with Sexed genetics of indigenous cattle like Sahiwal, Red Sindhi and Gir and Murrah buffalo. Coupled with high genetics, sexed semen can have significant positive impact on farmer’s profitability. ABS Sexcel Sexed semen facility in India is unique and first anywhere outside USA.
Mr. Andrew Ayre, British Deputy High Commissioner was also present and congratulated Genus Plc for bringing the latest technology to the country and producing ABS SexcelTM in India. “It is a historic day for UK and Indian dairy industry to extend Sexcel benefits to Indian dairy farmers, helping them to double their income by 2022 as targeted by the Government.”
Prior to today’s launch, competition was restricted in the sexed genetics processing industry. Today’s launch marks the first time sexed genetics produced from a new and differentiated technology. In March 2017, the U.S. federal court held that Sexing Technologies (ST) had willfully maintained monopoly power in the market for sexed bovine semen processing in the U.S. and granted a permanent injunction against ST. The court’s judgment validates the importance of customer technology choice for sexed genetics.
