PRAKRITI- The Environment Society of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh celebrated Akshay Urja Diwas today. The function was sponsored by Chandigarh Renewable Energy Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST). Various Inter-college Competitions like Slogan Writing, Poster Making and Face Painting on the theme “Impact of Akshay Urja in India” were held. About 70 students from 14 colleges of the Tricity registered for the various competitions. A PowerPoint presentation on ‘Conservation of energy’ was delivered by young Environmentalist Surbhi Yadav, student of B.A III of the College and an active member of PRAKRITI.
The program started by welcoming the Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) Anita Kaushal Principal of the College. Principal Madam in her address to the students and faculty advocated the essence of renewable energy in the sectors of Bio Energy, Wind, Hydro and Solar Energy. Highlighting the importance of energy resources which is the need of the hour, she appreciated the efforts of the society members and motivated them to carry on such activities which would give them opportunities to play a constructive role for the betterment of the society.
She also congratulated the students and the prize winners for enthusiastically participating in various competitions and being a part of the valuable campaign.
The students along with the faculty members also took a pledge to conserve energy. The function concluded with the prize distribution ceremony.
