Prakriti- The Environment Society of P.G.G.C.G-11 Chd celebrated Akshay Urja Diwas today. The function was sponsored by Chandigarh Renewable Energy Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST). Various Inter college Competitions like Slogan Writing, Poster Making and Pot Painting Competitions on the theme “Impact of Akshay Urja in India” were held. The students from 11 colleges of the Tricity participated in the various competitions.
The program started by welcoming the Chief Guest Mr. Debendra Dalai, Chief Conservator of Forests.
Chief Guest, Mr. Debendra Dalai in his address said that per capita energy consumption is increasing at much higher rate in past few years. It has resulted in Global warming and climate change. He motivated the gathering to switch to renewable Energy Sources. He explained that installing roof top Solar System on buildings will give us economic as well as environmental benefits. He persuaded the students to be a partner of Government in Energy Conservation.
Principal Prof(Dr) Anita Kaushal, in her address advocated the essence of renewable energy in the sectors of Bio Energy, Wind, Hydro and Solar Energy. Highlighting the importance of energy resources which is the need of the hour, she appreciated the efforts of the society members and motivated them to carry on such activities which would give them opportunities to play a constructive role for the betterment of the society. She also congratulated the students and the prize winners for enthusiastically participating in various competitions and being a part of the valuable campaign.
The function concluded with the prize distribution ceremony.
