Pawan Kumar Bansal, former MP from Chandigarh has asked the Chandigarh administration to accept the proposal of Indian Railways to build a new world class railway station here as per the latter’s plan.

In a statement, Bansal has said that It was over eight years back that Chandigarh Railway Station was included in the list of five railway stations that were selected for development as world class stations with all latest facilities. Consultants were appointed thereafter to take the projects further.

A green station has to be built up over an area of five lakh square feet, Bansal added. Now it is disappointing to learn that Chandigarh administration has thrown a spanner in the works by curtailing the area to half. Further, Bansal said that IR own the land needed for the purpose and it has even stipulated an elevated road across the tracks to provide for another connection to Panchkula.

Keeping in view the grandiose plans, UT administration should immediately allow the construction of the new station as per IR’s plan., Bansal added. It will remarkably add to the City’s stature and help City’s economic growth including an impetus to tourism, Bansal said.
