The staff and students of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh celebrated Republic Day with gaiety and fervour today. Mr. Kanwar Iqbal Singh, Dean and Prof. Nirupma Luthra, Vice-Principal of the college unfurled the national flag.
Students while honouring the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect on 26 January 1950, expressed their views on the significance of freedom in the contemporary context and the progress of India in last seven decades. This year also marks the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and special tributes were paid to the father of nation.
Group and solo songs by the students of Music Department made the atmosphere nationalistic. Group dance by the students of Dance Department stirred a spirit of patriotism.
Addressing the students on this occasion Dr. Madhu Gupta, from the Department of Political Science emphasised that the Indian constitution is a living document and adapts to the changing needs of the hour. She stressed that the feeling of nationalism and patriotism should not merely be ornamental, rather they should be understood in their true spirit. She urged the students to be innovative, original and dream big to help India soar new heights.
