“Tu Sooraj Main Saanjh Piyaji’s” Uma Shankar miss his hometown Chandigarh a lot that he wish to comeback here whenever get a chance. On Friday, Avinesh Rekhi who is playing the character of Uma Shankar was in town to promote his new show “Tu Sooraj Main Saanjh Piyaji”. He has done his graduation from DAV College 10 and is attached to the city to very extent. He said I wish to comeback here and entertain my fans whenever possible.

Starting a new chapter of the iconic show ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’, STAR Plus is set to bring back the same magic with a fresh story of Kanak Rathi – Daughter of Sooraj & Sandhya and Uma Shankar in the sequel ‘Tu Sooraj Main Saanjh Piyaji.’
Uma Shankar is a simple man having a traditional approach towards life. He’s a purist who has immense faith in his traditions and follows them religiously. He isn’t dominating but his advices are taken very seriously by the people in his town. Uma Shankar follows the age old ideology which believes that a wife’s role should be:
Karyeshu Dasi: works like a servant
Karaneshu Mantri : advises like a minister
Bhojeshu Mata: feeds like a mother
Shayaneshu Ramba : Pleases in bed like the heavenly beauty Rambha
Roopeshu Lakshmi : Beautiful like Goddess Lakshmi
Kshmayeshu Dharitri : Having patience like Earth
Shat dharma yuktah: woman who has this six virtues
Kula dharma Patni : good housewife (a married woman who is not employed outside the home)
The show ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’, was a journey of two unlikely partners Sandhya & Sooraj who personified the ideal relationship, one of support and companionship giving Indian television their very own Ram-Sita Jodi. ‘Tu Sooraj Mein Saanjh Piyaji’ is the story of two completely opposite individuals-Kanak Rathi and Uma Shankar. While Kanak Rathi is a modern yet rooted, carefree yet determined, independent girl, Uma Shankar is a highly respected purist with strong beliefs in following traditions and norms. This contrasting attitudes and character traits of Uma Shankar and Kanak Rathi is what sets the core of Tu Sooraj Main Saanjh Piyaji. The story is of Kanak’s quest of not being perfectly compatible but transforming oneself to become the perfect soul mate for someone else.
Talking about his character, actor Avinesh Rekhi said, “Uma is a Shiv Bhakt and follows traditions and norms stringently. He does Surya Namaskar every day without fail. I have worked extensively on my body in the last six months as it will be featured for major parts in the show. And to do justice to my character on screen I’m following a strict ‘Keto’ Diet. Uma is highly educated and has immense knowledge about culture and values. He lives a conventional life and this character is a first of many for me. Just like the first season, I hope that the audiences will like this unusual love-story of Kanak and Uma as they get-together in their journey of becoming “Diya Aur Baati”.
Diya Aur Baati Hum challenged norms & changed perceptions, and gave families an occasion to laugh, love and celebrate together, every day and characters that were a part of their life. The sequel of the show brings the much loved audience characters: Bhabho and Meenakshi, along with a fresh cast of Kanak, Ved , Vansh and Uma Shankar taking the legacy forward.
