For the first time ever,Snow Marathon Lahaul will be flagged off from Khoksar, at the North Portal of Atal Tunnel, on 26th March 2022.  Fortis Mohali is the official medical partner for the marathon and will be providing the necessary medical support.  

Dr Manit AroraConsultant, Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, Fortis Hospital Mohali, who has immense experience in treating athletes and renowned sports persons such as Indian Hockey Team Vice-Captain, several cricketers and players from kabaddi and hockey briefed on sports-related injuries.

Dr Arora, said, “Mountaineers and people indulging in adventure sports are prone to acute mountain sickness (AMS), high-altitude cerebral edema (HACE), and high-altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE). Proper training and equipment are essential for training and performance in high altitudes.”

Brand Ambassador of the event, Kieren D’souza, said, “The event will see participation from seasoned experts from the world of mountaineering and adventure sports. I am elated to be a part of the Snow Marathon Lahaul. There is surely a new experience that the runners in the country will be experiencing.”

Kieren D’souza is a star runner and endurance athlete that India is proud of having. He has several firsts to his credit, including being the first Indian to qualify for and finish the 246 km Greece Spartathlon. A full time Ultra and Trail Runner runner since 2015, Kieren has been chasing dreams all over the Indian Himalayas and has combined mountaineering with climbing and has established several fastest known times, running up and down peaks in matter of hours, which seasoned climbers do over days!

Col Arun Natrajan, an aviator in the Indian Army and the Chief Event Advisor of Snow Marathon Lahaul who has also participated in more than 20 such marathons, said, “Snow Marathon Lahaul will be an event to remember. I invite runners and guests to come and experience the wonders of Lahaul in winters. All of this is possible because of the opening of the Atal Tunnel.”

The Snow Marathon Lahaul is organized by Reach India and will see participation from nearly 100 runners.  The participants will pass through the semi-frozen Chandra River and then go into a glacier stretch, while passing through snow-clad meadows and village link roads. The event is being supported by the Lahaul and Spiti District Administration.
