Readers Club, in collaboration with Department of Hindi, Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College, Sector 32, Chandigarh successfully organised an Inter-College Poster Presentation Competition to commemorate the Martyrdom Day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev. The poster competition aimed at highlighting the lesser-known struggles of independence and hence was titled “Untold Stories of Patriotism During Pre-Independence Period.” Dr Neeru Bhatia and Prof Harjeshwarpal Singh judged the poster presentation competition.
Dr Lochan in his keynote address talked about how as citizens we tend to unconsciously forget our histories and cautioned us in letting this amnesia go unchecked. He also reminded the audience of the role of the youth in India’s freedom revolution. He concluded his engaging talk by narrating the untold story of how Chandrashekar Tiwari came to be Chandrashekhar Azad.
Speaking at the event, Dr Ajay Sharma, Principal reiterated the need to hold on the past while maintaining independent thought. He also highlighted the importance of remembering our roots for a prosperous future. He commended the Readers Club for upholding the tradition of commemorating Martyrdom Day for four years consecutively.
The event also included a musical performance by college students who performed patriotic songs. Among the audience were the school students of Shristi Karma Foundation who were accompanied by the founder Mr Harcharan Singh. The competition was accompanied by a book exhibition on Bhagat Singh and other martyrs in the Indian Independence Movement on the library premises.
The winners of the Inter college poster competition included Aniket Verma who secured the 1st prize from GGDSD College, Chandigarh, Manpreet Kaur won 2nd prize from Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd, Ludhiana and the 3rd prize went to Akrisht Madaan from GGDSD College, Chandigarh.
