Department of University School of Open Learning (USOL), Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, celebrated the ‘International Mother-Tongue Day’ by inviting the two eminent Hindi & Punjabi writers, Mr. Madhav Kaushik & Mr. Nirpinder Ratan for the occasion.
Prof. Yojna Rawat welcomed the speakers & expressed her views on the significance of the mother tongue. Mr. Nirpinder Ratan highlighted the role of intervention of mother-tongue in today’s context & also enthused the audience by reading the self-composed poems in Punjabi.
The second speaker, Mr. Madhav Kaushik, an office bearer of Chandigarh Sahitya Academy spoke on the situation of crisis & challenges faced by the Indian vernaculars (People’s Mother-Tongue) on account of rampant globalization. Mr. Madhav also insisted the audience through the rendering of his gazals.
Faculty members, research scholars & students of the department actively participated in the event. Dr. Parveen Kumar conducted the event & Dr. Rajesh Jaiswal gave a vote of thanks.
