To acknowledge the contribution of nurses for being the torchbearers of medical care and delivering excellence in patient care, Fortis Hospital Mohali organised a walkathon and a series of other events from May 10 to 12, to commemorate International Nurses Week.
The day also commemorates the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale. The theme of this year’s event is ‘Nurses: A Voice to Lead – Invest in Nursing and respect rights to secure global health.’
To also raise awareness about May being observed as the Mental Health Awareness Month, a team comprising Ms Madhavi Chikhale, Chief of Nursing, and other nursing in-charges visited Prabh Aasra, a home for mentally challenged and destitute people. Goodies, including stationery items, were distributed among the inmates and an awareness session was held on the occasion.
Celebrations also witnessed the first-ever walkathon being organized by the Nursing Staff of Fortis Mohali. The event, conceptualized by Ms Chikhale with the support of the FHM leadership, highlighted the selfless service of the Nursing Staff and stressed on taking care of their well-being. The marathon was flagged-off by Dr Adarshpal Kaur, Mohali Civil Surgeon, in the presence of Abhijit Singh, Head-SBU; Dr Vikramjit Singh, Medical Director; Rajbir Aulakh, Deputy Chief Nursing Officer; Kanwal Deep Singh, Chief Security Officer, Fortis Mohali; ASI Rakesh Kumar, Phase VIII police station; other nursing staff.
Anchal Sharma, Counselling Psychologist, Department of Mental Health and Behavioural Sciences, Fortis Mohali, anchored the event.
“The nursing staff at FHM goes to extreme lengths to deliver excellent patient care service. In the midst of work pressure, they forget to look after their own physical, emotional and psychological health. The first-ever walkathon organized by the Nursing Staff is aimed at highlighting their well-being. The annual event is a platform for the nursing staff to exhibit their talent and appreciate their selfless service to facilitate patient care at Fortis Mohali,” added Ms Chikhale.
Meanwhile, a wide-range of activities such as lamp-lighting, quiz contest, skit and dance activities were organized at Fortis Mohali on Day 3 of the celebrations. Dr Puneet Girdhar, Registrar, Punjab Nurses Registration Council, was the guest of honor. The nursing staff was later felicitated for their relentless efforts and valuable contribution to healthcare.
Students from Chitkara University and Desh Bhagat University also took part in the walkathon.
