Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Chandigarh will organize a Half Marathon-‘Narsee Monjee Half Marathon International Women’s Day Run’ on Mar 5, wherein cash prizes of up to Rs 1 lakh will be given to the winners. This was announced at a press meet held to unveil the Half Marathon’s ‘T-Shirt’, at NMIMS Chandigarh campus, here.

Prof. Dr. Jaskiran Kaur, Campus Director, NMIMS, said, “The women’s day run will have three categories – Half Marathon (21.1 km), Mighty (10 km), and Fun Run (5km) for men and women participants. International Women’s Day provides an opportunity to promote gender equality and women empowerment. The half marathon will be a tribute to ‘women power’ and will mark International Women’s Day in a befitting manner.”

The 21.1 km run will be flagged off from NMIMS Campus at 530 am, the 10 Km at 6 am and the 5 Km run at 630 am. While Mr. Dharam Pal(IAS), Adviser to Administrator, UT has consented to be the chief guest and give away the prizes, Nitika Pawar(IAS), Secretary Social Welfare & Special Secretary Personnel, UT has consented to flag off the run.

Sharing the route details Dr Kaur said, “The runners will start from the NMIMS Campus, go to Sukhna Lake and return back to the start point. All the participants will be provided a T-shirt, a medal, an e-certificate, and refreshments.”

Dr Ramesh Bhatt, Vice Chancellor, NMIMS and Amit Sheth, Honorary Secretary & Mentor, NMIMS also expressed their views by sending their messages.

Dr. Ramesh Bhat said, “I am happy to share that the NMIMS, Chandigarh campus offers six programmes through its School of Commerce, School of Law, and School of Technology Management & Engineering. I would like to say that high quality of educational content, a multi-campus approach, and incisive faculty training programmes make NMIMS unique. Initiatives like the half marathon will surely connect the youth with the social cause and motivate them to stay fit.”

Amit Sheth said, “The Half Marathon will be a ‘by the students and for the students’ event. This will be the first edition and we plan to make it an annual calendar event. At NMIMS we aim at shaping a student holistically. In addition to academics we use a well thought out sports and personality development activities based curriculum.” Amit is also a well-known marathoner and was the first Indian national to have run the Comrades Marathon in 2009, he is the Comrades International Brand Ambassador for the Indian Subcontinent.

It was informed that Amit Gulia, a highly accomplished ultra-runner will be the Race Director. Ms. Deep Shergill, a noted educationist, who is also a fitness expert was present at the T -Shirt launch event along-with singer Naveed Akhtar. Opinder Kaur Sekhon a cancer survivor and a master national athlete too participated in the T-Shirt launch event.

Student Council members also shared their views at the press meet and informed that a core team of students has been made that will take care of the organization of the half marathon. They informed that Hydration Points will be available after 1.5 km, 2.5 km, 6.5 km, and 8 km and timing chip mats will be installed at the start and end points. Two ambulance vans, along with nursing staff, physicians, and physiotherapists, will also be there to meet any medical emergency.

It is pertinent to mention that Cycle Worx — a cycling group, will be joining as marshals, showing runners the right way to run, warning them of any obstacles or hazards etc. The event is supported by ICICI Bank (Banking Partner), Chandigarh Bytes (Promotional Partner), 94.3 My FM (Radio Partner), Jal (Hydration Partner), Aashray (NGO Partner), The Run Club Chandigarh, and run club – Himalayan Knights.
