Van Mahotsav is an annual tree plantation movement in India celebrated in the month of July to create awareness about the bad effects of deforestation. The Botanical Society(Green Thumbs) of Botany Department, Post Graduate Government College for Girls,Sector11,Chandigarh, a NAAC Accredited ‘Grade A’,CGPA3.52, has taken initiative to organize “National Campaign on Plantation and Geo-tagging” today with a theme “If you plant a tree, you plant a life”. The objective of campaign is to encourage community outreach and to raise public awareness on environmental pollution and eco-restoration.


The pioneer campaign witnessed massive public support and cooperation nationwide, around 400 people from Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana. Himachal and Punjab participated, belonging to different strata of society and planted different trees of medicinal value i.e Azadirachta(Neem), Cedrus, Citrus, GulMohar, Hibiscus, Ixora, Mangifera, Mimusops, Moringa, Morus, Phyllanthus,Tecoma etc.


Principal,Prof (Dr)Anita Kaushal stressed upon the restoration of the environment and lauded the organizers for their role in preservation of nature and ecological balance,through inculcating the habit of tree plantation in community ,a best gift to society.
