The students of Fashion Design semester 3 of NIIFT, Mohali toured the state of Punjab to conduct a Craft Survey and Documentation of the handicrafts of Punjab.
The Head of the department of Fashion Design Dr Simrita Singh curated a vibrant exhibition displaying the rich culture and heritage of the state through vintage Phulkaris , artifacts , end products inspired by the handicraft of Punjab on 12th Oct 2017 . According to Dr Simrita Singh the role of crafts in today’s lifestyle and fashion has immensely increased. The students work was evaluated by eminent Jury comprising of Mrs Rekha Maan a National Awardee and running a large NGO in Patiala and Rajpura for the promotion of Phulkari and Ms Purnita Tripathi also running a Durrie weaving NGO near Chandigarh. The chief guest of the function was Director NIIFT Sh KS Brar who highlighted the role of handicrafts of Punjab in redefining the present fashion trends across the globe. He highlighted the presence of Phulkari today on the international ramp and museums . The Exhibition and documentation of the handicrafts was held under the guidance of Dr Simrita Singh , Mr Gobind Rai , Ms Deepti and Ms Navdeep all Professors at NIIFT.
