As many as 300 teams were registered on the last day of registration for the ‘Alangers Gully Cricket Tournament’, which is being organised by UT Cricket Association (UTCA) in collaboration with Chandigarh Police. This second edition of the tournament has received registrations beyond organizers’ expectations as girls have shown massive interest this time. A total of 234 teams for boys and 32 teams for girls slated for the tournament. While chairing the review meeting of the tournament, UTCA’s President Sanjay Tandon said that this wide participation has further strengthened the tournament’s claim for the Asia Book of Records. During the meeting, along with preparing the outline of the tournament, the arrangements for the matches were also reviewed. During the entire tournament, nearly 290 matches in both the categories will be played in a total of nine grounds in the city. Apart from the tournament matches, exhibition matches will also be organized on weekends wherein the intellectuals of the city will participate. The tournament will be inaugurated on July 26 by Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Banwari Lal Purohit while the final of the tournament will be played on August 11. The tournament is being well supported by Chandigarh Police, Municipal Corporation, Sports, Education and Social Welfare Department.
