DIVYA AZAD
One of the deadliest and most difficult humanitarian crises the World Witnessed was 1st & 2nd Wave of Covid. During this time not only in India but Internationally it was Sikh & Punjabi Community worldwide which helped and lead from the front their humanitarian Sewa without any discrimination of religion , caste and creed to help those affected by Covid.Sardar Inder Preet Singh , founder Global Middas Foundation (GMF) said that In India especially when political parties , administration and political leaders across India where not able to meet the needs of those effected by Covid and could channelise resources which were needed it was Sikh & Punjabi Community which came to the rescue.Providing Sanitisers, PPE kits, Oxygen Cylinders , other necessary medical supplies along with ambulances , arranging food supplies through langar Sewa , giving shelter to those who got stuck and became homeless in Gurdwaras were all arranged based on the ideology of Sarbat Da Bhala.Further in order to assist arrangement of beds for Covid affected patients across India these facilities as part of Sewa were provided by local Sikh & Punjabi community from Jammu to Kanyakumari. In most dramatic cases where even the family owners disowned the dead bodies of their family members , it was Sikh & Punjabi community which even did the last rituals for them and for which S.Jitender Singh Shunty was awarded Padma Bhushan post Covid
Sardar Inder Preet Singh shared that all this was completely forgotten & overlooked by all Political Parties across India specially in Delhi where no ticket was given to any Sikh Candidates to contest Lok Sabha Elections. The same pattern has been seen across India and is really a matter of concern and disgrace that when their was no one who came to save lives of its fellow country men at that time Sikhs & Punjabi community did their selfless Sewa by putting their own lives in danger still no political party could admit this fact and give representation to the community for Lok Sabha Elections. So in a democracy even where Sikh or Punjabi voters are not their but still the leadership and selfless Sewa as in Covid times once again worldwide was witnessed , the public would have surely selected and voted for candidates contesting elections from Sikh & Punjabi Community outside Punjab. At least the leading National Political Parties should have nominated at least one Sikh candidate from each state as a gratitude and appreciation for the community which on ideology of “Sarbat Da Bhala” and “Chardi Kala” have always stood and deserved a fair representation in Lok Sabha as well.
