In times of lockdown during the COVID19 pandemic, the humanitarian side of Punjab Police has become the talk of the social media. From Helping out distressed residents with daily essentials to educating the masses on the precautionary measures to be undertaken during the lockdown, Punjab Police has been showcasing policing replete with social responsibility.
Making its debut on youth centric platforms such as Tik Tok and ShareChat, Punjab Police has devised creative methods to disseminate important information and yet managed to keep entertainment quotient quite high, which is obvious from its first 2 million views in just 24 hours!
Amongst its many other videos on Tik Tok, ‘Deepu di Biryani’ has become massively popular, raking in tremendous views but based on a simple idea that showcases Deepu making biryani for his loved ones, while staying at home. With the aim of inspiring people to stick to the safety of their abodes, these video target the channelisation of creativity to beat boredom, so that people do not venture out in such troubled times.
Apart from its regular updates on the work being done by the force in different parts of the state, some talented ones within the force are also devising unique lyrical ballads to inform the masses about safety aspect of the situation. In true blue punjabi style this ballad features Bhangra and Dhol Beats, and has gone viral for its spunk and catchy lyrics.
The video has been well received and well liked that its features over a 1800 shares for its innovative, yet relatable way of sharing an important message. Utilising the social media space to the hilt, Punjab Police has been consistently sharing Do’s and Don’ts of quarantining and measures against COVID19, through graphics, videos and caricatures.
Not only has the lockdown time given Punjab Police ample time to explore creative ways of getting in touch with people, it has also helped in overhauling of its image as that of a compassionate task force, lending a much required helping hand to those in dire need of it!
DGP Dinkar Gupta had called for sharing of videos and clips on social media platforms from the citizens’ end, exhibiting creative ways of spending time at home.
