The University Institute Of Legal Studies, Panjab University organized its National
Seminar on Mainstreaming of Marginals in India: Issues and Challenges on 6th May,
2017 which comprised of two technical sessions based on various sub-themes such as
“Mainstreaming of SCs & STs: Legal and Political Approaches, Inclusion of OBCs:
The Merits and Limitations of Reservation, Gender in Indian Politics: Need to Shift
emphasis from Welfare to Empowerment, Religious Minorities still awaiting for
Representation and Inclusion in India” among others. Around 200 research scholars
and students from various colleges across India presented their extensive research
in the sessions.
The inaugural session was attended by the Chief Guest, Prof. Vijay Kayat, Vice
Chancellor, Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa along with Prof. Ronki Ram,
Department of Political Science, P.U. Prof. Shalini Marwah, Dr. Dinesh K. Gupta
(D.U.I., P.U., Chd.) and Dean Faculty of Laws, Ms. Anu Chatrath graced the occasion
with their august presence and valuable inputs. A formal discussion regarding the
Need to Shift emphasis from Welfare to Empowerment, took place at different
sessions. All the participants enthusiastically presented their paper. The event
concluded with the valedictory ceremony at 5 PM.
Prof. Rattan Singh, Director in Charge, UILS, motivated the participants and
encouraged the teacher coordinators, faculty members, administrative staff and the
students for putting forth their tremendous efforts in making the event a grand
success. The chair provided the much needed guidance and valuable advice to the
teams for their future prospects.
