Senior Citizens’ body honored nine eminent women achievers on Women’s Day

 Chandigarh Senior Citizens’ Association today honored nine eminent women achievers working in different fields in Tricity on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The function was held at Government Museum and Art Gallery in Sector 10 here.

Justice Daya Chaudhary, from Punjab and Haryana High Court was the chief guest in the function while Asha Jaswal, Mayor, was the Guest of honour.

Among others IP Puri, President, Chandigarh Senior Citizens’ Association, Vice President Satnam Singh Randhawa, Secretary Projects Promila Mahna, Secretary Welfare Gurpreet Khera, Brij Sapra, SC Aggarwal, Prof. A.S Bhatia and other association members.

The function took off with an inspirational skit based on female foeticide presented in front of the audience, and group songs was presented by the association members.

Nine women honored on the occasion were, Prof. Pam Rajput who working on empowerment of women, Sangita Vardhan, working on child welfare, Gurnam Kaur Grewal, working on de-addiction, Dr Anuradha Sharma, working on social activism, Astinder Kaur, working on skill development, Jasbir Kaur for literature, Vidya Sachdeva for sports, Ved Nanda for charity honored by Justice Daya Chaudhary, Punjab and Haryana High Court along with Mayor Asha Jaswal.

 

While speaking on occasion I.P Puri, President, Chandigarh Senior Citizens’ Association, acknowledged the role of women down the ages not only in bringing up and holding together families but also exercising a sobering influence and instilling sanity in times of stress. He stressed the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day, namely “Be Bold for Change”. He was happy that modern women were themselves spearheading the reformist movement leading to their empowerment and resurgence in their status. He said association had been running several women-centric projects like VINITA, VIDHA, SHAKTI, KALPANA.

Justice Chaudhary appreciated the work being done by Association for uplift and empowerment of women. She complimented the award winners and asked others to take inspiration from them.
