A job mela was organised here today as a part of the ‘Shehri Samridhi Utsav’ (1 – 15 February) being celebrated under the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Govt of India and Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh (MCC), where 102 eligible urban poor youth from Chandigarh got selected for employment by various employers and companies.

Mr Paramjit Singh, Prinicipal Director, Regional Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (RCED) said, “I am happy to announce that a large chunk of unemployed poor youth trained at RCED under the Skill Development Programme of MCC have been selected for jobs. We noticed a good response from the unemployed candidates as well as from the companies.”

The companies which turned up for job placement interviews included Bank of Baroda (BoB), State Bank of India (SBI), PVR Cinemas, Swiggi, KDI Future, Brand Mandi, Sachtek Placements, SMC, Telecom Solution Private Limited and IKYA, etc.

The 155 urban poor youth, who participated in the job interviews, were trained by RCED, CDCL and SEBIZ under the Deendayal Antyoday Yojana – National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY – NULM), a scheme of Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Govt of India. The Shehri Samridhi Utsav is being celebrated nationwide.
