DIVYA AZAD
Second Lieutenant Rajeev Sandhu, from the Assam Regiment, had served the Army for only four months when he lost his life during his first posting itself, while fighting against the LTTE in Sri Lanka in 1988. He is the youngest officer in the Armed Forces to get the Mahavir Chakra. He was a proud Johnian, who lived by his school motto, Pro Deo et Patria.
On November 29, 2017, St. John’s honoured him by installing his statue on the school premises. His birthday, 12 November is observed as Rajeev Sandhu Day in the school. Everyone fondly remembers him and takes inspiration from him.
Today again, the school honoured his indomitable spirit and supreme sacrifice, by observing his Martyrdom day. The hero was paid a rich tribute in the form of flowers, patriotic songs and inspiring speeches.
